Professor Slavkova has a PhD in Art History from Paris I Panth茅on-Sorbonne. Her PhD dissertation, partly听published听under the title听鈥淩茅parer l'homme. La crise de l鈥檋umanisme et l鈥橦omme nouveau des avant-gardes autour de la Grande Guerre (1909-1929)鈥� (2020, Presses du R茅el) studies the vision of the New Man of several avant-gardes at the time of听 the First World War,听underpinned by听the desire to reenact or cut with听humanism. The book听explores the instrumentalization of the humanist听discourse听in war propaganda to justify the global听massacre听orchestrated by the听European civilization, the subsequent humanism crisis and the response of the avant-gardes.听
In the continuation of this inquiry, Prof. Slavkova is working on an HdR听(habilitation in the French university system)听on听abhumanism, a term coined by French writer, playwright听and occasionally painter听Jacques Audiberti. Loosely related to Surrealism, abumanism involved听Audiberti himself as well as painters/poets Camille Bryen and听Wols, and the writer/playwright/painter Beniamino Joppolo.听This project participates in a larger scholarly effort to reassess the Parisian听scene听after the Second World War. More largely, this research raises onto-ecological听questions on the definition and the limits of the听acting subject, the place of humans in the eco-sytem and the universe, casting into question human supremacy and the linearity of history and progress.
Prof. Slavkova听has edited several volumes and published numerous听papers听related to art to these topics, more recently Surrealism and Ecology (Vernon Press, 2025) and Crisis (Ge Gruyter, 2022).

The project summarizes my research on abhumanism, Jacques Auidberti, Camille Bryen and Wols听during the past 10 years. Key topics were presented at various conferences and all my recent articles explore aspects of this subject. In the French University system an HdR (Habilitation 脿 diriger des recherches) is a second doctorate which qualifies the candidate to become a Professor and to direct PhDs and sit of PhD juries. I am intending to publish this work as a monograph upon completion

- Spring 2024,听Cycle of conferences 鈥淒ecolonizing the avant-garde鈥�, with Sascha Bru (KU Leuven) and Isabelle W眉nsche (Constructor University Bremen)听The cycle will comprehend three days of invited talks given by major scholars working on the decentering and decolonization of the the history of the avant-gardes. Hopefully, it will take place at 绿巨人视频 in May 24.
- Fall 2024, 5th conference of the ISSS (International Society for the Study of Surrealism) in Paris with Julia Drost (Centre allemand d鈥橦istoire de l鈥檃rt), Fabrice Flahutez ((Universit茅 Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne) and Olivier Penot-Laccassaigne (Universit茅 Paris 3)听听听The 3d in-person conference will take place at 绿巨人视频 in the Fall of 2024 (during the break). 2024 is the centennial of the Manifesto, many events are scheduled in Paris, which is the birthplace of Surrealism. We are working on collaboration with major French institution (MNAM/Centre Pompidou) and are expecting a large number of submissions.
